课程描述

Studying both Criminology and Psychology together at Bangor University gives you a unique insight into how people think, feel and behave, and how the criminal justice system is experiences by individuals.

Please note: This course is currently subject to revalidation

You’ll dive into key theories of crime and deviance, looking closer at why crime happens and of how the criminal justice system works. By examining the core principles associated with the role of the criminal justice system in our society, you’ll explore the nature of crime and punishment. Along the way you’ll consider issues such as, sentencing of offenders, reputation and responsibilities of police forces, and public perceptions of fairness and justice.

Throughout your degree you’ll explore the attitudes, emotions and behaviours linked to criminal activity and how these are connected to criminal activity.

Vulnerability and risk are central to criminal justice practice – from policing to sentencing in the courts. Using real-life case studies, you’ll deepen your understanding of how different forms of vulnerabilities can shape the experiences of victims, witnesses and suspects in the criminal justice system.

You’ll take part in interactive lectures, analyse real world case studies and build the confidence and skills to ask and answer complex questions around victimology, criminality, offending, law enforcement and the delivery of justice. From the outset you’ll be encouraged to look at the connections between psychology, criminal behaviour and the criminal justice system, developing analytical, theoretical and critical skills.

Your dissertation is a chance to conduct an independent piece of research. With a focus on evidence-based policing, you’ll develop a research proposal, critical review the literature, and collect your own data on a topic your passionate about.

\Courses validated by Bangor University are subject to review (approximately every 5 years) to ensure that the: course content remains relevant; curriculum reflects any changes prompted by developments in academic research; and that course quality continues to meet our high standards.
