The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences adopts a Joint Admission Scheme (JS2020), under which incoming students are not required to declare their major immediately upon enrolment. During the first year, students take foundational courses jointly offered by five majors—Chinese Language and Literature, Creative and Professional Writing, English Language and Literature, Humanities, and Translation Studies—thus gaining broad exposure to diverse disciplines before selecting their major at the end of Year One, based on personal interest and academic performance. Students may also opt for a “Double Major” to pursue in-depth study in two related fields. Currently available Double Major combinations include: Chinese and English; Chinese and Religion/Philosophy/Ethics; English and Religion/Philosophy/Ethics; and Translation Studies and English. In addition, students may choose a minor from courses offered by other faculties across the university to broaden their interdisciplinary perspectives.
