The School of Communication at Hong Kong Baptist University was established in 1968 and is one of the most influential communication schools in Greater China, offering undergraduate, dual-degree, master’s, and doctoral programmes. The School comprises three departments: the Department of Communication, the Department of Interactive Media, and the Department of Journalism. Its curriculum covers multiple fields—including journalism, digital media, public relations, and advertising—with the aim of equipping students with solid professional knowledge and practical skills to prepare them for careers in the media industry or for further academic study. The two majors—Journalism and Digital Media, and Public Relations and Advertising—operate under a “unified admission” scheme: after enrolment, students first complete the university- and school-mandated general education and foundational courses, and then select their major at the end of the first semester of Year One, based on personal interest and academic performance. In addition, the School offers a four-year dual-degree undergraduate programme jointly run with The University of Queensland in Australia. Students study at both institutions and, upon graduation, receive bachelor’s degrees from both universities. Admission to this programme requires a separate application after enrolment, followed by selection through an interview.
